Josh Boyd

Josh has a versatile and exciting portfolio of musical abilities. He is a passionate performer and his style is unique and interesting - having developed over the last 30 years of practice, education and playing experience. 

   

In February 2020, Josh moved to the Riviera Maya, Mexico, to start working as the guitarist, singer and Band-leader for Cirque Du Soleil's resident show “JOYA" at Vidanta Resort, having performed over 500 shows since his arrival.

For 8 years prior to this, he was one of the most in-demand singer-guitarists around Brisbane, Australia, owning his own event and wedding band business, and working for several well established band collectives and agencies, where he would manage and book hundreds of musicians to service the busy Australian entertainment and tourism industry.

Josh’s award winning vocal and guitar talents draw influences from the likes of Jazz artists George Benson, Michael Bublé and Wes Montgomery to blues/soul artists John Mayer, Robben Ford and Stevie Wonder. He also has a large singer-songwriter acoustic solo repertoire with songs from artists such as Ed Sheeran, James Taylor and the Beatles. 

Growing up in a musical family and having a Professional Musician as a Father, gave Josh a head start in his music career. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music and Business Studies at Massey University, New Zealand in 2006, Josh spent 4 years performing at sea with Princess Cruises and Carnival Cruise Lines. He performed alongside many guest entertainers and highly experienced musicians from all around the world, helping to shape his wide experience and versatility as a performing musician of many musical styles.

 

He is adept as a lead singer, band leader, multi-instrumentalist and as an acoustic soloist, knowing what is required to establish the desired vibe and feeling at any event or venue. Having worked with and employed hundreds of musicians from all around the world, he has a large active network, and is able to quickly recognise talent and work with clients to match their entertainment needs to the appropriate performers and acts.

 

In his spare time, Josh is busy creating and releasing his own original music in the Jazz/Blues and singer songwriter styles. In 2019, he produced his own “Tribute to George Benson” show, and has an active following online. He performs regularly around Cancun in his days off with his Jazz/Funk Band “The Double B’s”.
